Rath Yatra – Maha Prasad Seva

From July 7th to July 15th, the town of Puri in Odisha, India, also known as “Shree Jagannatha Dham”—one of the “Char Dham” (the four holy abodes of Maha Vishnu)—celebrates the famous annual festival of Shree Jagannatha Rath Yatra. Millions of pilgrims gather to participate in this nine-day event.

The Rath Yatra

Rath Yatra celebrates Shree Jagannatha’s journey to his aunt’s house, accompanied by his brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra in a grand procession on huge chariots. The deities reside in Gundicha Temple for the next nine days and return to Shree Mandir on the 10th day, known as Bahuda Yatra. This is the only time in the year Shree Jagannatha comes out of the temple to give darshan to all his devotees, regardless of caste, religion, or creed, attracting millions of pilgrims to Puri.

The Maha Prasad

According to the “Skanda Purana,” Shree Jagannatha redeems devotees by allowing them to partake in his Maha Prasad, which is revered as ‘Anna Brahma’. Receiving even a morsel of this prasad is considered a great fortune by pilgrims. During this year’s Rath Yatra, we are blessed to offer food to Shree Jagannatha and distribute this Maha Prasad to the pilgrims. With guidance from Mohanji, Ammucare & Mohanji Bharat team, will set up a stall in Puri’s festival area to distribute Maha Prasad. This is not ordinary cooked food, but the sacred Maha Prasad offered to Shree Jagannatha, making it a divine blessing for the pilgrims.

Benefits of Feeding during Rath Yatra

Offering service (seva) to pilgrims during this festival is considered highly purifying and a deed of great merit (Punya). Those who may not be able to attend the festival in person can still receive the grace, purification, and benefits of participating by offering their service to the pilgrims.
