Swift action, essential care

Act4Environment / ACT Fast ACT Now is Ammucare Charitable Trust’s specialized disaster response and environmental resilience initiative. Grounded in the philosophy of moving swiftly when disaster strikes, the project has spent more than a decade delivering critical, timely relief and long-term rehabilitation to communities devastated by natural calamities.

The initiative focuses on rapid, timely intervention and tight coordination with local partners to ensure support reaches affected families without delay. Over the years, the project has responded to major cyclones, severe floods, and critical emergency situations across multiple states in India. By leveraging this robust network of on-the-ground partnerships, the initiative ensures that help is mobilized directly to the frontlines of a crisis exactly when it is needed most.

Core Operations & Relief Measures

The project drives impactful disaster relief, preparedness, and resilience through the following focused operations:

Immediate Relief Mobilisation:When natural disasters strike, the initiative responds swiftly by deploying essential survival, utility, and comfort items directly to affected communities. Key relief measures include:

  • Flood Support: Distribution of ration kits to families displaced or affected by severe flooding.
  • Cyclone Response: Provision of mosquito nets, solar lights, and critical emergency supplies in cyclone-affected regions to ensure safety and access to light during power outages.

A Decade of Preparedness:With over ten years of active disaster response experience, the initiative focuses on strengthening community resilience by helping vulnerable regions prepare for, respond to, and recover from environmental crises. This includes:

  • Medical Readiness: Distribution of specialised medical kits designed for disaster preparedness.
  • Capacity Building: Conducting educational webinars on disaster management and first aid to equip local communities with life-saving skills before a crisis occurs.

Jammu Flood Relief

Following severe flooding in Jammu, Ammucare launched a relief operation across several affected communities, including Rajiv Nagar, Kalika Nagar, parts of Gorkha Nagar, Bhor Camp, Gol, Dambal, Sari Rakhunwalan, Bandarod, and Bazigar Colony. Reaching families in vulnerable areas, particularly those living along the Tawi riverbanks, volunteers delivered critical supplies to address immediate needs arising from the disaster.

The relief assistance included 500 summer blankets, 500 bed sheets, 100 tarpaulin sheets, mattresses, notebooks, and pencils for children, along with essential items such as bread, milk, and disinfectants. Swift coordination and sustained on-ground efforts ensured that support reached households affected by displacement and loss, providing comfort, stability, and practical assistance during a challenging period.
